Sufiya AbdurRahman’s writing investigates questions of family, identity, race, and religion and, often, how they intersect. Sufiya’s nonfiction has appeared in publications including Catapult, The Washington Post, Washington City Paper, Bull Men’s Fiction, The Source, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and NPR.

Sufiya is an alumnus of Howard University and Goucher College (M.F.A.), and she is a visiting assistant professor of English at Washington College.

The debut memoir by Sufiya Abdur-Rahman has been named winner of the 2020 Iowa Prize for Literary Nonfiction. It is forthcoming from University of Iowa Press in Fall 2021.
